After more than a year in the making, the Hope Home by Fowler Homes is officially complete and set to go under the hammer on November 1st, aligning with Gumboot Friday.
This annual event encourages communities across New Zealand to come together to raise awareness and funds for youth mental health, and this year, the Hope Home auction will play a key role in that mission.
Gumboot Friday, run by the I Am Hope initiative, offers free counselling for young people in need. As mental health challenges continue to grow, so does the demand for services like these. In the past year alone, the number of mental health practitioners involved in the initiative has grown significantly, with over 500 counsellors now providing support. To date, more than 100,000 free counselling sessions have been facilitated, offering essential help to Kiwi youth navigating difficult times.
Fowler Homes has been a proud partner in this project, and their Queenstown-based Hope Home is more than just a house—it’s a symbol of care, support, and community. With the help of over 50 local businesses and suppliers, including key sponsors like Rinnai, James Hardie, and Bunnings Trade, the Hope Home represents the strength of collective effort.
Jason McGirr, Managing Director of Fowler Homes, shared his thoughts on the project:
“This is about more than building a home—it’s about giving back to the community. The funds raised from the auction will help I Am Hope continue their important work supporting young Kiwis facing mental health challenges.”
Mike King, founder of I Am Hope, expressed his gratitude for the project, saying, “The generosity of Fowler Homes and everyone involved is truly inspiring. Their support ensures that more young people will have access to the help they need.”
The auction will take place at the completed home in Hanley’s Farm, Queenstown, and all proceeds will go directly to the Gumboot Friday counselling service. This project highlights the importance of community spirit and the role we can all play in supporting mental health initiatives for our youth.
